The Maiden Voyage |
DAY II The next morning, we had a new neighbor. An older gentleman in an old beat up van with two orange extension cords sticking out the back windows. He kept to himself and we didn't mind having him as a neighbor. Pop-tarts and dry cereal was the breakfast of champions on this morning. Later on, i would send the lovely wife to the grocery store. The cheese nips and crackers had worn off and i needed some beef. The master chef, myself, finally had the opportunity to test out the new grill... nothing like hamburger steak out in the wild. My father-in-law came over and we built a pretty good sized fire. Got to use my hatchet that i didn't think i would need! No wood was provided, but there was enough laying around to burn for quite a while.
Around about 4:00pm, while i was tending my fire and making it bigger, a motley crew buzzed around our cul-de-sac... two car loads to be exact. Gear was piled high in the back and on top of the vehicle. This wasn't right! We had squatters rights to our cul-de-sac. This is a whole other story also. To keep the curiosity down i will tell you that they drank beer, went and got more beer, smoked alot of pot and coughed until the wee hours of the morning. They were fairly quiet and kept to themselves so i didn't really mind. I didn't like it though. That evening, we charred a few dogs and burnt a some marshmallows. I tended the fire until well after dark. Burned every log and stump that we found... now that is livin! Temperature dropped to mid 20's again and this time we used the ceramic heater and the gas furnace. The wife says it was much warmer.
