Creekstone Campground Site #93 - Pigeon Forge, TN |
The second family camping trip was planned with another couple. They have a Innsbruck fifth wheel that is being towed by a brand new Chevrolet Duramax diesel pick 'um up. Property value went down when we backed in! Not much of a story here. I learned alot from our first camping trip and bought the BAL Leveler! One other note, the slide on caps on the PVC pipe worked great and did not move at all. DAY I The first day went very smooth compared to our first trip. My son and i loaded all the gear, picked up the filet mignons, iced the cooler down, hooked the battery up, etc. Picked the wife up around 6:00 p.m. at work and we were off. We decided to take the back roads to the interstate and the new Blazer did a great job pulling the camper. When we pulled onto the interstate, unbeknownst to me, we were in the middle of a convoy! Semi trucks were just flying by! I had never experienced this before and you could tell when one of these big rigs was coming up... it felt like we were being sucked in. Can't say enough about the Blazer! I didn't realize it when we purchased the pop up, but the tow vehicle makes a big difference. I could only imagine the Kia Sportage (that we had) pulling the loaded pop up... would never have worked. The whole way, my son and daughter kept checking the trailer and saying, "Dad, the camper is still going the same direction we are!" All i could do was laugh and say, "It better be!" We arrived at the campsite around 8:00 p.m., backed right in and proceeded with the setup. It was getting dark and i wanted to hurry and get the roof up so we could turn the inside lights on. Roof was up, supports in place, electricity was plugged in and i jumped in to turn on a light... nothing happened! I checked all the fuses, breakers and bulbs - everything looked good. Our friends (who arrived earlier in the day) came over to help troubleshoot the problem. After about 15 minutes, i decided we would go ahead and set up. The plug ins were working and we could make do without the overhead lights until morning. Next, i grabbed the galley, which swings down, put it in place and the lights came on! What an idiot! We have a safety switch on the bottom of the galley that turns the overhead lights off. Needless to say, the switch works as it should and we finished setting up the camper. BAL Leveler: I highly recommend purchasing one of these. It works GREAT! I purchased mine from J.C. Whitney for $59 (shipping included). We finished the night off with a big fire, hot dogs and chips. |
